The Journal. Los Angeles to Daytona...

Day 15.1 – Here Comes The Sun – Gainesville to Daytona

The ride out of Gainesville was an extremely cold start, for about the last week a polar front has been making its way south and we were now on its margin. Other states fared worse with heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures, whilst we had beautiful blue skies but none-the-less very cold due to wind chill. In fact we had to stop thirty and fifty miles down the road to gather heat and take in coffee and donuts in a Dunkin Donuts, wow these places are busy, it even has a drive in! Whilst we were inside shivering over warm drinks and consuming sugar, outside the sun was getting higher, heating up the air and creating a beautiful blue canvas.

Arriving at St Augustine late morning we headed down the A1A, pulled in next to the beach. Now it was getting hot. Some of us took our shoes off and headed into the water, it’s warmer than the Pacific a lot warmer. Group photo’s were taken. We had done it, now 3,002 miles later we had completed our Coast to Coast road trip, safe, sound and without major incident, but it’s not over.

This day’s blog I will cover over two days as we crammed in so much with such a delightful end, more of that later.

Shooting, a past time that is very restricted in the UK, was our next objective, we found a small range on Nova.  The staff at the Hot Shot Shooting range, fellow bikers, made us feel really welcome, kept a close eye on our bikes and introduced us to our arms of choice.  With swift tuition and comforting supervision we let off two boxes of ammo, for some this was a completely new
experience, for others a rekindling of adventure past.  Before we could shoot Andy needed to purchase a hunting permit, being from out of state, let alone out of country.  This was later received by email. Lunch was at the Golden Goose, a small road-side deli/diner, not far from the range, by now the sun
was blazing above us and the cold morning start appeared distant.  We sat there enjoying home cooked food basking in the sun, not really wanting to move, but the owners need to close up for the afternoon.
