The Journal. Los Angeles to Daytona...

Day 15.2 – Leather and Lace MC

There is a particular reason for splitting our penultimate day for riding into two parts and that is to pay respects to our hosts for the evening – Leather and Lace MC.

Our meeting with the MC stems from a friend of ours, “Choo Choo” who is a real treasure. Whilst at a meeting of the Black Horse Riders in the UK, Choo Choo, interested in our upcoming trip offered, if we were interested, to have access to the club house and its facilities given that it was just South of Daytona. Yes, we said why not, a real opportunity to meet fellow motorcyclists across the pond. So we find ourselves today heading to the club-house.

Before heading south on the US1 we headed to JP cycles in Daytona, next to the Harley Davidson dealer there as well as the HD outlet (!). A large store, JP Cycles has almost anything and everything you may want for your cruiser, parts and bags were purchased then we headed south, in glorious sunshine on US1.

Turning off US1 onto Arial then South onto Blair Road Our arrival was greeted by the most warm, hospitable open welcome of our whole trip, yet we were strangers being vouched for by another club member. For the last couple of days I had been singing Horse with No Name by America, its words seem to fit for where we had been and were heading, so have been quite a number of other songs that you may have picked up through this blog. Anyway, on taking my helmet off, the exact song by America was being played in the club-house – I could not believe it.

Without hesitation, our hosts, including the president of the club, made us most welcome, showing us the bar, the amenities, showers, toilets, boutique, swimming pool and house. This was for our full use for our stay. Purchasing tokens to purchase beer, we soon relaxed with our hosts, but dinner was needed, without a pause we headed off to a local country diner, back of pick-up or in cab was the question, all of us opted for the back of the truck. How often would we have the opportunity to ride in the back of a pick-up, down back roads to a diner – it had to be done. Dinner passed all too quickly due to great conversation, combined with great home food and
homely surroundings. Back at the club house we settled down for sleep, under a deep black clear sky, peaceful air and full stomachs.

We awoke to a clear crisp morning, very still and quite apart from Penny the Pig who also had woken up looking for breakfast. Our stay was truly fantastic, unfortunately all too brief but we vowed to come back. Please do seek out the ladies of Leather and Lace out, they are a wonderful group with warm hearts and have a deep passion for bikes and those of like minds, their website can be found at http://www.leatherandlacemc.com/.
